Charmander Pattern


The next pattern is the fire type starter for the Kanto region, Charmander. Using specified materials will result in a doll with a height of a little over 5 inches. Using a different size yarn and hook will result in a different sized doll.


Materials:
Red Heart Super Saver brand yarn, worsted weight, colors:
    - Pumpkin
    - Pale Yellow
    - Cherry Red
    - Bright Yellow
    - White
Embroidery yarn:

    - Black
Crochet hook: size G/6 – 4.25 mm
Solid black safety eyes: size 12 mm
Poly-Fil Fiberfill
Yarn needle
Embroidery needle
Pins for positioning



Abbreviations: 
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
inc – increase
dec – decrease (invisible decrease recommended)
[ ] x# – repeat the instructions inside the [ ] # times
[ ] around – repeat the instructions inside the [ ] for the whole round
magic ring (also called magic circle) – a technique to make the first round. You can also use the traditional method of: ch 2, [sc] x6 in 2nd ch from hook. 

 

Instructions:
It is recommended to read though the entire instructions before beginning so you know what to expect. For best results, continuously stuff while crocheting. Yarn colors are in bold. The instructions list the round number, instructions for that round, and total number of stitches in that round in the ( ). Before sewing it is recommended to pin the parts together so you can correctly position them.

Stuff head. Insert eyes between Rnds 8/9. With Black: embroider smile.

Begin stuffing body.

Stuff, close the opening, and fasten off.   




Arms/Legs (make 4):

Begin stuffing.   
Rnd 6:    [sc, sc, dec] around    (9)
Rnd 7-11:    [sc] around    (9)

Continue stuffing.

Stuff shoulder lightly, close the opening, and fasten off. Sew arms/legs to body. With White: embroider 3 ‘V’s evenly spaced over Rnd 2 for claws on 2 feet.   




Tail:
Rnd 1:    With Pumpkin: [sc] x6 in magic ring    (6)
Rnd 2-4:    [sc] around    (6)

Begin stuffing.   
Rnd 5-7:    dec, sc, inc, sc, sc    (6)
Rnd 8:    [sc,sc,inc] around    (8)
Rnd 9-11:    [sc] around    (8)

Continue stuffing.   
Rnd 12:    [sc, sc, sc, inc] around    (10)
Rnd 13:    [sc] around    (10)

With 2 strings each (about 4-5 inches) of Cherry Red, Pumpkin, and Bright Yellow: attach to end of tail with like colors on opposite sides, twist each strand to unravel, trim edges slightly shorter than middle for flame shape. Stuff and sew to lower back of body with bend sticking straight up, and bend tail into position.
